Mentoring To Build Research Thinking Mindset

As a researcher I am constantly looking out for opportunities to improve my craft – either clinical medicine or research/publication. This way of viewing my work and approach to work feels natural to me now. But it was not always like that. How did I come to be this way?

Research training and the practice of conducting research develops critical thinking skills. The analytical skills that are required for planning research, data collection, analysis, writing and publications/presentations refines and builds a research thinking mindset. This takes time, persistence and most importantly (in my view) a good research mentor.

Recently a friend and I launched a research mentoring program aimed at building research skills and research mindset among aspiring researchers in the Pacific Region. We plan to deliver this program under a PNG based NGO that we registered. Our NGO is called Papua New Guinea Research Outreach Inc.

I think one of the best way to incubate and grow a young aspiring researcher is through good mentoring, coaching and assistance. I benefited from having many mentors throughout my research journey and I think that having an NGO focusing on research training is a good way to build research capacity within our region outside the confines of an academic setting.

Please help us support research training in the Pacific.

Your donation will go towards delivering our mentorship program.
