Break down in the PNG’s public health system and delivery mechanisms has resulted in an increase in private clinics and medical centres in Port Moresby. So out of curiosity I decided to see which of these private medical care providers have joined the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI). This was because I think not all businesses registered with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and operating in Port Moresby are members of POMCCI. Membership to POMCCI is voluntary anyway!
And it was interesting what I found. You can download a graph of businesses operating in Port Moresby who are members of POMCCI here. Businesses have been broken down into the nature of the business. A total of 275 businesses in Port Moresby are members of POMCCI.
Here is the document:Graph of Business Types – POMCCI.
Some points I discovered:
- Private Health Care Providers – only 1% of POMCCI members.
- Hospitality and Acomodation – 5.4% of POMCCI member. This probably is indicative of the boom in real estate industry in PNG right now.
Private Health Care providers in Port Moresby should get registered with POMCCI and take advantage of opportunities – either training or client exposure. And also promote cooperate governance among private health care providers.
