After a long time the Master of Medicine (Rural & Remote Medicine) as been revived in PNG. This is the training to develop rural health specialist medical officers in PNG.
The PNG Society for Rural and Remote Medicine has been fortunate to have the sponsorship of WHO and AusAid and we are very grateful. Although some of my co-workers have said that the training is similar to the MMED (Emergency Medicine) because of its rotation structure, I will disagree. Although the structure may seem somewhat similar, the content is very different. Surgery does form a major part of the training but other things such as technical training, administration and management training make it special. This sets the MMED (Rural & Remote Medicine) apart from the other specialist training program in PNG. |
