Home Sweet Home.

There comes a time in your life when you feel the need to have your own house. I think it’s natural to feel like that. When you are young and not married and no children, you really do not think deeply about owning your own house. That’s what I was doing. Never really bothered! How I regret now.

Now that I am married and have a young son, having your own house for your family is really hitting home.

So I have began educating myself on things I need to know about before I go shopping for my first house. Things like – how much do I need before I can obtain a loan? what do banks in look for in a first home buyer seeking a loan? Then I have tried searching the web to learn about the real estate industry in PNG.

I have found that houses in Port Moresby are generally more expensive compared to centres like Lae or Madang. In Port Moresby, houses in some surburbs are more expensive compared to others. For example, houses on sale in Korobosea are more expensive than houses in Gerehu!

I had a maths teacher when I was doing my years 11-12, and he once said, “how funny is it that the most important decisions that we make that will determine our lives and future are made when we are young”. I never really understood what he meant until now. Decisions about what to study at the university, career objectives, finance etc are made at a time in your life when you do not have all or most of the information. Thats where parents, teachers and others who help comes in.

Back to my current delema, I am still learning what I should have learnt a very long time ago.

Like they say, “learn from  your mistakes. But if you keep repeating the same mistakes then there is something wrong with you”.
